Welcome to the Art Department

Concordia's Art Department has serious programs offered by fun-loving and caring faculty. We offer a student-centered approach to the visual arts. Our flexible programs range from traditional studio art and art education degrees, to career preparation using digital applications, to public art activities. CSP wants its art students to be connected to their professors, to other students and to the professional art world in the Twin Cities and beyond.

Mission
The Art Department provides faculty, coursework, facilities and equipment, experiences and opportunities in its programs.  We will help you understand and develop the role of visual art in your life.  Students will learn to appreciate how art relates to culture. Our professors will help students develop their talents and prepare them to use art in their future careers.

Careers
The myth is that Art Majors have three options. They can either teach art, do commercial design work, or starve. The truth is that there are many ways to make a living using one of CSP's four art major programs. Part of our job is to help students become aware of the options related to their own strengths and interests in art.

Facilities
The Art Department has begun its move into its new home. The main exhibition galleries and support spaces are already established in one of two buildings being converted for Art Department use. Our current studio classrooms are spread all across the campus and vary in size and function. When established, the new studio spaces will support the growth and quality of our programs well into the future.

Scholarships
Current and incoming students planning to be art majors are encouraged to apply for a Dean's Scholarship.
